Broadcasting

I was a radio broadcaster for more than 7 years (May 1986 – February 1994), working at radio stations in large and small markets throughout the United States. In that time I was an announcer, journalist, editor and some-time intern wrangler. I earned a Broadcasting certificate from Broadcast Center in St. Louis where my speaking voice was professionally trained. I’m an alto with a Midwestern United States accent.

I anchored newscasts, talk shows and sporting events and did live remote broadcasts from events and local businesses. I covered courts, boards of education and local, state and national politics. I had a particular gift for the cold read (the ability to read a piece flawlessly on air without pre-reading it).

I wrote news copy and extracted soundbites from interviews. I also wrote and voiced ads.

As an editor I compiled newscasts and assigned stories to reporters, proofreading their stories before allowing them to air.
