Stargate Atlantis Rewatch: Season 2, Disc 1 Special Features

Special Features
Mission Directive:The Siege Part 3
Director Martin Wood discusses the making of The Siege Part 3. An easy episode for him, he says, since it was effects-heavy.
Mission Directive: The Intruder
Director Peter DeLuise talks about the making of The Intruder and all the ways they ramped up the jeopardy in this episode.
Audio Commentary for The Siege Part 3
Director Martin Wood, writer Martin Gero, actors Joe Flanigan and David Hewlett. I love when they point out little goofs like the hand the Wraith uses to feed on Ford doesn’t have a feeding seam, and the bomb in Sheppard’s jumper is different than the one used in the cliffhanger (even Joe Flanigan didn’t notice). Wow, and one of the guys who escorts McKay to the ZPM room was actually in the military and served in Somalia. Awesome!
Audio Commentary for The Intruder
Director Peter DeLuise and Stargate SG1 actor Gary Jones. Gary Jones isn’t in this episode, but he seems to be Peter DeLuise’s best friend because Peter got him doing commentary on another Atlantis episode he wasn’t in back in season one. Still, these are a couple of funny guys, so the commentary is entertaining. Peter tells us how the Hermoid puppet is operated, which is interesting.
Audio Commentary for Runner
Director Martin Wood and actor David Hewlett. Martin Wood gives nifty trivia about how some of the effects are done and what troopers Rainbow Sun Franks and Jonathon Young (Dr. Parrish) were. Franks sat up in a tree for an entire scene, and Young was told he had the part the day before they shot it. Oh, and they really love Jason Momoa, but not for the same reasons that I do.
Audio Commentary for Duet
Director Peter DeLuise, writer Martin Gero and actors David Hewlett and Joe Flanigan. David Nykl (Zalenka) went to clown college. Who knew? I think the most interesting fun fact for me, though, is that the B plot with Ronon winning his acceptance almost never was. There was some other B plot involving Sheppard and Tayla trying to steal parts from a dart factory (or some such), but it didn’t work and came across as a time waster, so they wrote something else. Good thing they figured that out before going to shoot, huh?
