Stargate Atlantis Rewatch: Season 1, Disc 5 Special Features

Special Features
A Look Back at Season 1 With Martin Gero
The cast messes with writer Martin Gero as he tries to get their thoughts about the writing in season 1. He also gives us a set tour, some serious commentary and answers some fan questions.
Mission Directive: The Siege
Taking a page from Martin Gero’s Look Back at Season 1 documentary, there’s a lot of fun had at Martin Wood’s expense and fun at the cast’s expense. Not much talk about The Siege, though. I was disappointed.
Audio Commentary for The Gift
Director Peter DeLuise and actor Gary Jones (SG1). Gary Jones plays Sergeant Harriman on SG1 and had nothing to do with this episode. Not sure why he’s providing commentary, but he’s a funny guy so it’s OK. He and Peter DeLuise are in love with Rachel Luttrell, especially when she’s sweaty. Nice recap as Peter catches Gary up on Tayla’s back story and the jeopardy Atlantis is facing.
Audio Commentary for The Siege Part 1
Director Martin Wood, writer Martin Gero, actors David Hewlett and Joe Flanigan. In this commentary we get more about the actual episode than about how hot Rachel Luttrell is. Interesting things I learned from this commentary: The previous two episodes were done on the cheap so they could go all out with the special effects for the two-part Siege episodes. Also, Christopher Heyerdahl apparently flew in from Japan to do his scene then flew back, and David Hewlett was sick when he filmed this episode. That’s dedication. It was also interesting to learn what was CG and what was practical effects. Ah, movie magic.
Audio Commentary for The Siege Part 2
Director Martin Wood, writer Martin Gero and actor David Hewlett. More behind the scenes trivia about movie magic. They love the scene where Weir is blindfolded and negotiating with the Genii leader. It was a terrific scene.
